Week 6 "Winter Refuge" 11x14
Fri. Feb. 11, 2011 Jackson:
Winter on the National Elk Refuge is one of the Jackson Hole classic scenes. Every day there is drama and beauty out there. This is a glimpse at some of the grandeur and beauty as the late afternoon sun dances across the grasses that are still poking up through the building snowpack. This majestic fellow looks healthy and will probably make it through the tough winter. Others may not be so lucky.
He'll lose his antlers in a month or so, then the snow will pull back to reveal the first spring grasses. Until then, these moments of warmth and glory out on the Refuge are probably a welcome respite from the winter's cold.
